Spring Renewal: Resilience on Our Farm Amid Layoffs, Community Support, and New Beginnings
Spring always brings a fresh start, a chance to grow and bloom after the quiet of winter. This year, our farm feels that spirit more deeply than ever. After facing a layoff, my family and I have found strength in the lessons of military life—diversity, perseverance, and community. Our neighbors have stepped up in incredible ways, helping us prepare the fields for planting. Now, as we sow spring seedlings and nurture new growth, we look forward to a season full of promise and hard work.

Embracing Change and Staying Positive
Losing a job is never easy. It shakes your sense of security and forces you to rethink your path. For us, it also meant leaning on the values we learned as a military family. Moving often, adapting to new environments, and embracing diversity taught us how to face challenges with resilience. This layoff became a moment to pause, reflect, and redirect our energy toward what we love most—our farm.
Instead of dwelling on uncertainty, we focused on what we could control. We set goals for the season, planned new crops, and reached out to our community. This mindset shift has helped us stay positive and motivated.
The Power of Community Support
One of the most heartwarming parts of this journey has been the support from our neighbors. They have gone above and beyond, helping us clear fields and till rows. Their generosity has saved us time and energy, allowing us to focus on planting and planning.
This kind of neighborly spirit reminds us that farming is not just about the land—it’s about people. Together, we are building something stronger than any one of us could do alone. Their help has been a vital part of our spring renewal.
Preparing for a Bountiful Season
With the fields ready, we are excited to start sowing spring seedlings. This year, we are planting a variety of vegetables and herbs that will nourish our family and community. We have also started pumpkins early for a small pick-your-own pumpkin patch this fall. It’s a new venture that we hope will bring joy and connection to visitors.
Soon, we will be planting elderberry, blueberry, and raspberry bushes. These fruits will add diversity to our farm and provide delicious, healthy options for years to come. Each plant represents a new beginning and a step toward a sustainable future.
Thriving Goats and Unique Farm Experiences
Our goats are thriving this spring. Their playful energy and gentle nature bring life to the farm every day. We continue to offer Goat Grams, a fun way to send a little happiness to friends and family with a personalized visit from our goats.
In addition, we have expanded our farm activities to include Goat Yoga and Pilates sessions. These classes combine gentle exercise with the calming presence of our goats, creating a unique experience that supports wellness and connection to nature.
Harvesting Homegrown Herbs for Wellness
Spring is also the time when our herb garden comes alive. We have a plentiful harvest of homegrown herbs that we use to make tinctures, oils, and poultices. These natural remedies have been part of our family’s wellness routine for years.
Our herbs include varieties known for their healing properties, such as lavender, chamomile, and calendula. Preparing these tinctures and oils is a labor of love that connects us to the earth and to traditions of natural care.
Looking Ahead with Hope and Determination
This spring marks a new chapter for our farm. Despite the challenges of the past months, we are planting seeds of hope and growth. The support of our community, the lessons from our military background, and the joy of working the land keep us moving forward.
We invite you to follow our journey this season. Whether you visit for Goat Yoga, pick pumpkins in the fall, or simply enjoy the beauty of a farm coming to life, there is a place here for everyone. Together, we grow stronger.
